Based in Haiti, James Farquharson is a Strategic Planning and Financial Modeling Fellow, supporting Sèvis Finansye Fonkoze, S.A. (Fonkoze Financial Services), Haiti's largest microfinance institution.
James has wide ranging experience in financial services and financial management as well as in international and domestic policy making and regulation. Over the last 4 years he has worked in a number of roles at the Bank of England and the UK Financial Services Authority. At the FSA he has been responsible for the supervision of financial services companies. More recently, at the Bank of England he has lead on projects to negotiate, develop and implement international financial regulations.
Before joining the Financial Services Authority James completed, with Distinction, a Masters in Environmental Policy at the University of Oxford. His research focussed on the challenges of implementing social and environmental standards at multinational energy companies. He also has a First Class Degree in Human Sciences from the University of Oxford. James has a keen interest in education and works both as a mentor for young students and as a school Governor in his home city of London.
During his Grameen Foundation Fellowship, James will be working in Port-au-Prince, Haiti for Fonkoze supporting the development of the business plan and strategy, and monitoring and promoting performance against the plan’s targets. He will also support Fonkoze’s capital management activities.
