Based in Uganda, Neil Edward Wood is the Global Partnerships and Commercialization Strategy Fellow, supporting Grameen Foundation.
Neil was born in England, but spent his childhood in Germany. After finishing school, he successfully completed a professional training as certified language correspondent and a degree course in economics and finance. He then joined Pricewaterhouse Coopers to work in the transactions and audit departments. To advance his career, he gained his professional qualifications as a certified chartered accountant before leaving PwC for Australia to enrol in the MBA program at Melbourne Business School.
While studying for his Masters degree, he had the opportunity to provide strategic and operational consulting support to various start-ups and non-profit companies. To experience life in the developing world, he participated in the University exchange program, and spent two semesters at the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad, India. This experience reinforced his passion to commit his career to working to improve the lot of the poor. But first he was eager to gain further experience in the design and implementation of business strategy. Therefore, after graduation, in his most recent role, he worked for the Business Development and Strategy Team at Target Australia for nearly two years.
Neil will be working on the Global Partnerships and Commercialization Strategy during his time as a Grameen Fellow and will be based in the Grameen Foundation offices in Kampala, Uganda. Neil is very excited about the opportunity of joining the fellowship program and can’t wait to move to Uganda to experience the local life, nature and wildlife.
