The Grameen Foundation Summer Internship Application is now open!
A Grameen Foundation internship provides students and recent graduates an opportunity to gain new skills, learn more about our work, and strengthen Grameen Foundation’s ability to carry out its mission to connect the poor to their potential. It offers a wide range of internship positions, each tailored to align students' talents and interests with the needs of our teams.
INTERNSHIP TYPES
There are a wide range of internship opportunities available within Grameen Foundation. Some of the most common internships are summarized below:
Program Intern: Program teams, such as the Social Performance Management Center and Bankers without Borders, need additional resources to advance their efforts. In addition to general support, interns are commonly assigned to special projects that will span the course of the internship. Projects vary depending on team needs.
Marketing & Communications Intern: Grameen is expanding its offline and online communications activities to support fundraising and build public awareness. Interns enable us to increase our visibility in key markets by updating web pages, editing and writing copy as needed, as well as assisting with developing, researching and writing story ideas for publications, website, and social media.
Finance Intern: The Finance internship will provide Grameen Foundation's Finance Team with accounting and auditing support and coordination. Interns will provide research as requested, efficiently perform and filter research with minimal guidance, and work with standard versions of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other relevant software.
THE PROCESS
Grameen Foundation internships are tailored to align volunteers’ talents with the needs of our teams. By applying, you are submitting a general application to the Grameen Foundation Internship Program. Your completed Internship Application will be used to gauge your skills, areas of interest, and location preferences. Additional interviews will be conducted with top candidates by Grameen Foundation staff.
To be eligible for the Internship Program you MUST be a currently enrolled student (undergraduate or post-graduate) OR have graduated less than one year ago.
Once the assignment is confirmed, an internship plan will be created. The internship plan will include specific short- and long-term goals for the internship as well as details on the projects and tasks the intern will complete.
TESTIMONIALS FROM PREVIOUS INTERNS
"I had an amazing experience as an intern with the Finance and Operations Department. It was a great opportunity to learn more about Grameen Foundation and its work, and also a chance to gain a better understanding of microfinance, NGO accounting and various finance aspects of nonprofit management. I am very interested in social enterprises and creating sustainable impacts and my internship at Grameen gave me a good start into this field." -Wenxiao Lu, Spring 2014 Intern, Washington, DC
"Working as an intern for the Grameen Foundation this spring allowed me to explore the field of development as well as GF's highly effective and admirable work up close and personal. I was able to contribute and develop my own skill set by working on a wide-range of projects; over the course of the semester I assisted with the marketing of a new initiative, the redesign of toolkits that will be used in future trainings, data collection and analysis, and even a bit of translation! I thoroughly enjoyed my time interning with Grameen Foundation!"- Elyse Collat, Spring 2014 Intern, Washington, DC
